Dr. Yu was born, raised, and educated in the
U.S.
He received his undergraduate education at the University
of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he was a James B. Angell
and Regents-Alumni scholar, graduating with distinction.
He attended Wayne State University School of Medicine,
and went on to ophthalmology training at The Mount Sinai
Medical Center in New York City. He then served 3 years
in the U.S. Air Force, fulfilling his obligation under
the Health Professions Scholarship Program, leaving
with the rank of major.
Dr. Yu is in private practice, though he helps
train ophthalmology residents at the Sinai
campus of the Detroit Medical Center. He also teaches
internal medicine and family practice residents through
his affiliation with Oakwood Medical Center. Dr. Yu
maintains staff privileges at William Beaumont Hospital
in Royal Oak.
Dr. Yu has had lengthy experience with refractive
surgery, first with radial keratotomy, and
since 1996, laser vision correction, first with photorefractive
keratectomy (PRK) and then with LASIK.
Dr. Yu keeps current with the latest advances in refractive
surgery by attending scientific seminars and
visiting other refractive surgeons throughout the country,
most recently completing a mini- fellowship with internationally-renowned
Lasik surgeon, Stephen G. Slade, M.D.
