Quality Eye Care provides the latest in glaucoma management,
both in diagnostics and treatment. We have at our disposal,
arguably the best in imaging technology, the OCT
or Optical Coherence Tomography, to
evaluate the optic nerve head. This machine measures
the dimensions of the nerve and also assesses the retinal
nerve fiber layer, all of which are damaged in glaucoma.
By accurately measuring and following changes over time,
Dr. Yu can determine if glaucoma is present, and if
present, if it is progressing. We use the Humphrey
Field Analyzer with the latest in software
upgrades, which includes the fast-running SITA program,
and the new progression analysis package. We have the
newest digital fundus camera, the Zeiss Visucam
Pro NM, with which Dr. Yu can document the
appearance of the optic nerve head, so it can be followed
objectively, over time, with serial photos. Despite
the availability of newer imaging technology (such as
OCT), optic nerve head photos are still the gold standard
in following changes over time. The Visucam can obtain
pictures without your eyes being dilated!
We have the Sonogage ultrasound pachymeter
which is used to measure corneal thickness, an important
measurement that has predictive value in glaucoma. Corneal
thickness measurement is now standard of care in the
field of glaucoma.
Quality Eye Care has the Nidek 532 nm green
laser for treating glaucoma patients with laser
trabeculoplasty. This laser is a diode or solid-state
version of the original argon laser. A Nd:Yag
laser is used for performing laser iridotomy
for those patients who have narrow angles or narrow
angle glaucoma.
For patients who require more aggressive treatment
of glaucoma, Dr. Yu performs trabeculectomy, with and
without the anti-fibrotic agents 5-FU and mitomycin
C, which can improve the chances of successful intervention.
If necessary, this glaucoma procedure can be combined
with cataract surgery.
